Materials: - 7 mm Knitting needles - Veronica Yarn (200g) [From Lincraft] ** - Yarn sewing needle ** I would recommend buying two lots of this yarn. How to know I how many cast ons and rows you need? (see above image) To determine how much you would need, I would recommend starting off by testing out how stretchy the yarn is when it is knitted together. I would keep count how many cast ons and rows (such as 31 cast ons and 21 rows). I found that: 31 casts = 22cm, which stretches to 29cm. 21 rows = 10.5cm, which stretches to 14cm. This is a practice for your actual beanie. Measuring your head??? -Measure the distance around your head on where you want the beanie to sit. My head measurement was: 55cm. I need to do 61 cast ons. I figured this out by: (see above image) 31 casts = 29cm 1 cast on = 1.1cm --> 1.1 cm x 55cm 55cm = 61 cast ons. Measure a beanie or hat that fits comfortably. This measurement becomes the length of the beanie. My comfortable beanie measures: 27cm (when the beanie was stretched) I need to do 42 rows. I figured this out by: Because 21 rows stretches to 14cm, I want my beanie to stretch to 27cm. 14 x 2 = 28 (very close to 27cm!) This means I need to 2x (double) the amount of rows: 21 x 2 = 42 rows. Below are some videos I used to help make my beanie. I do not own these videos, but all the photos are mine :) These are some tips I found useful:
- Use a notepad and pen to mark when you have finished a row. - this helps you keep track! - Fixing tight knitting - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtU6pcRzZBQ - The positioning of the string: If it is at the front, bring it to the back - knit stitch If it is at the back. bring it forward - purl stitch ---> Do this interchangeably. :)
